چکیده

This paper reviews the emissions of reactive nitrogen compounds (RNCs) from modern vehicles fitted with spark ignition en-gines and three-way catalysts. Specific aspects pollutants involved – their formation are discussed. Cold start driving cycles scenarios under which all four RNCs can be significant; mechanisms behind trends ex-plored. Experimental data obtained two tested over different cold presented analysed. The use gravimetric molar metrics explored. Ammonia, a species is currently not regulated for passenger cars in any automotive market, identified as forming majority RNC entire cycle. While ammonia strongly linked to aftertreatment system warmup periods high load, significant were also measured certain hot-running, low load conditions, even at idle. For duration test procedures employed, profile was dominated by ammonia, accounted between 69% 86% ex-haust gas. Emissions compared available legislative precedents (i.e. limits force various jurisdic-tions). Finally, possibilities control exhaust unregulated briefly

Cold start modelling of spark ignition engines

The ability of mean value models to replicate the key characteristics of automotive powertrains has been well established over the past four decades. There has been considerable success in the application of these models to controller design, with improved emissions and performance of the primary benefits. However, these low order models typically must make certain assumptions about the engine—...

Optimal cold start calibration of spark ignition engines

This paper investigates optimal strategies for minimising the conflicting objectives of fuel consumption and warm up duration following an engine cold start. Using a reduced order model, parametric solutions for the optimal air-fuel ratio, valve timing, cam timing and idle speed setpoint are sought in the presence of input constraints. The results are then validated using a dynamic programming ...

Model-based cold-start speed control scheme for spark ignition engines

This paper presents a model-based control scheme to the cold-start speed control in spark ignition (SI) engines. The multi-variable control algorithm is developed with the purpose of improving the transient performance of the starting engine speed: the control inputs are the fuel injection, the throttle and the spark advance (SA), while the engine speed and the air mass flow rate are the measur...

Pre-ignition in Highly Charged Spark Ignition Engines – Visualisation and Analysis

Highly boosted spark ignition engines must confront violent forms of pre-ignition limiting the maximal low-end torque. French research institute IFP presents here an innovative tool allowing a better understanding of this phenomenon and a structured reasoning considering all potential causes of this phenomenon. Advanced statistical analyses of the combustion process and direct visualisations in...
